World's Fastest Man Arrives Home Today

On August 16th, 2008, tears of joy, pride and sheer excitment flowed from West Indians but especially Jamaicans across the world when Usain Bolt strided across the finish line in a time of 9.69 seconds to win the Men's 100m and beat his own World Record!

Less than a week away from his 22nd birthday, Bolt gave the sold out crowd in Beijing, China's Bird Nest Stadium one of the most memorable moments in Olympic history that they would ever first hand witness. There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Bolt could have shaved more than that 0.03 seconds off of his previous World Record but as he would later state, he was not there to beat his record, he was there to win the race. That he did. He definitely did!

Heated Debate Between Minister Colm Imbert and CNC3's Sampson Nanton

During today's regular post-cabinet media conference, a heated debate ensued when CNC3's reporter, Sampson Nanton asked about allegations made by Trinidad & Tobago's former Trade and Industry Minister, Dr Keith Rowley.

Trinidad & Tobago's Works & Transport Minister Colm Imbert denied any knowledge of claims made by the former PNM Minister and refused to answer whether T&T's Prime Minister Patrick Manning would be required to appear before the Commission.

A Commission of Enquiry into the Construction Sector has been appointed to investigate allegations of misconduct of UDeCOTT (Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited) including procurement practises and other possible corrupt activites alledged by the Ex-Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley. Dr. Keith Rowley was fired in April 2008 by PM Patrick Manning following alledged unruly behaviour.

The Commission of Enquiry into the Construction Sector was announced in July 2008 by T&T's Government and will be headed by British Professor, John Uff. Today, the rest of the members of the Commission were announced. The Commission will begin later this month (September 2008) with a full report due in 1 year (September 2009).

Barbados Inter-School Sports Starts March 12, 2008

Log on to CBC TV8 from 10am for coverage of the 2008 Barbados Inter-School Sports Championships.

Barbados' new Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs, Family and the Environment has confirmed that the stadium refurbishments will be completed in time for the beginning of competition next week.

$63 Million Private Jet Purchase in Trinidad and Tobago

The Government of Trinidad & Tobago through its Minister of Works & Transport, Colm Imbert has denied rumours that it is purchasing a $63m Private Jet for its own use.

Minister Imbert announced that Caribbean Airlines will own and maintain the jet but admitted that the the local government has purchased 600 flight hours per annum. Minister Imbert did not disclose how these hours will be used but cited the loss of productivity of high level government officials was the main objective for the Trinidad & Tobago government to purchase these private jet flight hours, using Prime Minister Patrick Manning's recent trip to Uganda as one such ocassion.

Other Caribbean Governments may jump on the Private Jet bandwagon if it's deemed feasible. A US$120,000 feasibility study will be commissioned and cost bourne by the Government of T&T stated Minister Imbert.

Trinidad and Tobago's Opposition Leader, Basdeo Panday has called on PM Patrick Manning to detail and justify these costs to the public in tomorrow's sitting of parliament. Jason Daley: April 24th, 1973 - January 29th, 2008

You probably know this cultural icon as Jah-son, with the "n" almost silent. He was the culture guru and host on Gayelle the channel as well as Radio Trinbago 94.7FM. Bearly 35 but Jason knew more about we Trini history and culture than most of our parents!

The entire JumpTV Team extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and really anyone that knew Jason. Such was the impression he made on us all.

You will truly be missed Jah-son, may your love for our culture live on in the youths as you wanted. Rest in peace.
