Trinidad & Tobago Celebrates 45 Years of Independence

Trinidad & Tobago became an independent nation on August 31st, 1962.

Other than the annual Independence Day Parade and evening Fireworks, Trinbagonians also look forward to the special programs on this day.

Brittons Hill, Barbados Family Trapped - Updates on CBC

An apartment building collapsed today at Brittons Hill in Barbados trapping a family.

CBC will be bringing LIVE news updates on the hour for the next few hours as they come to hand.

Two apartments collapsed and went down a cave. The oldest child reportedly trapped is just 7 years old. Initial reports indicated 11 people were trapped then reduced to 4 but latest updates from authorities have just updated that figure to 5. Barbados Police have said there really is no way for them to tell.

TVJ will be carrying LIVE coverage of Hurricane Dean from 7am (Jamaican time) for the day tomorrow.

Hurricane Dean heading for Jamaica

Having been upgraded in the wee hours of Thursday morning to a Category 1, Hurricane Dean is progressing quickly into what experts indicate will hit Jamaica as a Category 5.

Most Jamaicans are taking this warning seriously, especially in light of the devastation caused by Hurricane Ivan a few years ago. Windows have been boarded up and thousands of Jamaicans flocked to supermarkets and general good stores earlier today to stock up on food and supplies.

Of course our thoughts are with Jamaica, especially those we know personally.

Anniversary of Slain Guyana Newspaper Employees

August 8th, 2007 marked 1 year since the gruesome slaying of 5 Kaieteur Newspaper's pressmen.

The 5 employees, Eion Wegman, Shazim Mohamed, Mark Maikoo, Richard Stewart and Chetram Persaud were brutally gunned down while at the the National newspaper's presshouse at Eccles, East Bank Demarara during the height of Guyana's General Elections last year.
